Fascination Culver's Root

Fascination Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum 'Fascination')Fascination Culver's Root is a tall, refined native perennial that adds calm structure and late-season color to sunny borders. Its upright spikes bring height without heaviness, helping mixed plantings look more intentional and layered. From mid summer into late summer, the soft lavender-pink flowers draw pollinators and keep the garden active when many early bloomers are finished. If you want a reliable vertical accent that feels elegant rather than stiff, this plant fits beautifully. Distinctive FeaturesThis clump-forming perennial produces strong, upright stems lined with whorled, deep green leaves, topped by slender, densely packed flower spikes. Blooms appear in mid to late summer and read as soft lavender to pink, creating a light, candelabra-like effect when side spikes develop. The overall habit is tall and architectural, making it a natural backbone plant for borders and meadow-style designs. It performs best with consistent moisture, which helps stems stay sturdy and foliage stay fresh through summer heat. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun to part shade, with best flowering and strongest stems in full sun. Soil: Average to rich, well-drained soil that holds moisture, and it tolerates heavier soils that stay consistently moist. Water: Medium moisture, keep evenly moist for best growth and bloom, especially in summer. USDA Zones: 3 to 8. Mature Size: About 3 to 4 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Notable Traits: Pollinator friendly flower spikes and generally good deer resistance. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Plant a bold clump as a focal point where the tall spikes can anchor the border during mid to late summer. Perennial Borders: Adds vertical structure that balances mounding plants and keeps the planting looking designed. Meadow Plantings: Blends naturally with ornamental grasses and sun perennials for a relaxed, natural look. Rain Garden Edge: Performs well along moist edges where soil stays consistently damp through the season. Back of the Border: Creates height and rhythm behind mid-height perennials without casting heavy shade. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Water during dry spells to prevent stress and to keep flowering strong. Staking: Stake lightly in windy sites or if grown in part shade where stems may lean. Deadheading: Remove spent spikes to keep the plant tidy and sometimes encourage a smaller follow-up bloom. Mulching: Mulch with compost to hold moisture and improve soil structure over time. Season Cleanup: Cut stems back after frost or in early spring before new growth emerges. Why Choose Fascination Culver's Root? Elegant Vertical Form: Tall, clean spikes add structure and lift without making the border feel crowded.
