This ingredient reverses the unsightly effects of daily exposure to environmental pollution and stress. Discovered in the deserts and salt lakes of Egypt, Ectoin is a natural substance which protects microorganisms against the damaging effects of dryness and extreme temperatures. In the same way that Ectoin naturally helps these organisms to survive in some of the world’s toughest conditions, this helps your skin survive environmental stresses. It is nature's sophisticated protection strategy and concentrated in a cosmetic ingredient. The amino acid derivative belongs to the group of Extremolytes which are small stress-protection molecules, which protect extremophilic microorganisms and plants against the lethal and extreme conditions of their habitats like salt lakes, hot springs, permanent ice or deserts. The terpenoids, asiatic acid, madecassic acid, asiaticoside and madecassoside which make up around 8% of the weight of the plant are found to be beneficial for the skin. The ingredient has potent antioxidant properties and to be a rich source of amino acids, and there's additional research showing that it's a great hydrating ingredient to soothe upset or compromised skin.
