exit xxvii

In exit paintings, Michael Wall explores the intersection of storytelling and technology, examining how contemporary life is increasingly shaped by digital spaces. The series reflects on a moment of transition—where human presence begins to shift into virtual domains—and considers what remains after this threshold is crossed. Figures and forms appear as traces or remnants, suggesting a state of existence that is both present and diminished, where identity and experience are redefined through technological mediation. Wall’s work engages themes of transcendence, nostalgia, and the evolving nature of reality, while also addressing a growing sense of detachment within contemporary culture. Through a combination of traditional and new media, he reflects on how digital immersion shapes perception, memory, and our sense of the future. The series ultimately presents a quiet meditation on change, capturing the tension between physical and virtual worlds as they continue to converge.
