This cast-molded, pressurized resin scale model of the Mercury-Redstone Launch Vehicle (MRLV) rocket stands 15 inches tall. It is built to 1:72 scale, rendered in fine detail, and includes a display base. Every part of the replica is accurately scaled to its real-life counterpart, enhancing its authenticity. Recommended for ages 14 and up. The Mercury-Redstone Launch Vehicle (MRLV) was the first crewed launch vehicle in the United States space program. Derived from the U.S. Army’s ballistic missile, it was designed to better understand the performance of the Mercury spacecraft. It was also used to study the effects of weightlessness on astronauts and participated in launch and recovery operations at Kennedy Space Center. During its two-year career from 1960 to 1961, the MRLV completed six suborbital flights as part of the Mercury mission. Initially used for unmanned tests, it later carried Ham the chimpanzee and ultimately launched the first American in space, Alan Shepard. Just 11 weeks later, it carried the second American, Gus Grissom, into space.
