Etsu Double Orange Japanese Gin

Etsu Double Orange Japanese Gin is a refined testament to the craft of artisanal gin-making, rooted in a heritage recipe that spans generations. The name “Etsu,” meaning “pleasure” in Japanese, reflects the essence of this gin, designed to offer a truly pleasurable experience with every sip. Distilled at the Akita distillery in the picturesque north of Honshū Island, Etsu Double Orange is crafted through a meticulous process that ensures its distinctive quality. The gin begins with a lengthy maceration of carefully selected traditional botanicals, which are steeped for a full seven days. This extended maceration allows the botanicals to impart their full spectrum of flavors. The gin is then distilled without the botanicals, a technique that enhances its elegance and refines its character, delivering a spirit that is both sophisticated and smooth. Central to Etsu Double Orange’s unique profile is the use of water from the Ōu Mountains, the longest mountain range in Japan. This crystal-clear water, known for its purity, adds a refreshing clarity to the gin, elevating its overall taste and ensuring a clean, crisp finish. The gin’s flavor profile is a harmonious blend of Japanese bitter orange peel, juniper berries, liquorice, angelica roots, and coriander seeds. The Japanese bitter orange peel introduces a zesty, citrus-forward note that is both bright and invigorating. This is beautifully balanced by the aromatic depth of juniper berries, which provide a classic gin character. Liquorice contributes a subtle sweetness and smoothness, while angelica roots and coriander seeds add complexity with their earthy and spicy undertones. Etsu Double Orange is not just a gin; it is an experience. Its fresh and fruity notes make it an excellent choice for a variety of cocktails, from refreshing gin and tonics to more complex creations. The gin’s vibrant citrus notes and well-rounded flavors also make it a delightful companion for a sophisticated sip neat or on the rocks. At 43% ABV, Etsu Double Orange offers a perfect balance of strength and finesse, making it versatile for both casual enjoyment and elegant occasions. Each pour is a tribute to Japanese craftsmanship, celebrating the country’s rich heritage while embracing modern elegance. Etsu Double Orange is more than just a gin; it’s a journey into the heart of Japan’s artisanal spirit-making tradition, capturing the true pleasure of a well-crafted gin.
