This is a program that was created due to the unusually high number of requests. Use the power of the mind to maximize your musical abilities. Indeed, music therapy is a fully credentialed profession. According to the Certification Board for Music Therapists, music therapy is a “treatment for people of all ages and ability levels to address their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, sensory, and spiritual needs.” The fact is, music affects the brain in many positive ways. It makes you smarter, happier and more productive at any age. Listening is good, playing is even better. We're all familiar with how certain pieces of music can change your mood, get you motivated, or help you concentrate. There is even research that shows that musicians have larger and better connected brains. Brain scans show that their brains are different than those of non-musicians. Musicians have superior working memory, auditory skills, and cognitive flexibility. Areas of the brain responsible for motor control, auditory processing, and spatial coordination are larger and musicians also have a larger corpus callosum. Additionally, listening to music increases the neurochemical dopamine, the brain’s “motivation molecule” and an integral part of the pleasure-reward system. There are many more inherent gains that come as a result of music, and you may not be aware of all of the advantages or care, you just love music and performing it.
