They say the stomach is the fastest way to a person's heart, but what's the best way to get to one's stomach? Why the esophagus, of course! This muscular tube connects your mouth to your tummy with a massage-like movement called peristalsis. When the food goes from the stomach to the mouth, that’s reverse peristalsis, a.k.a. vomiting! If your esophageal sphincter sleeps on the job, stomach acid may leak into your esophagus:  that’s heartburn.
