Erythrophysa paniculata

Rarely seen caudiciform shrub native to arid regions of southern Africa. This unusual species develops a swollen trunk and sculptural branching structure that gives mature specimens an ancient bonsai like appearance. It belongs to the soapberry family and produces delicate foliage along with ornamental inflated seed pods that add even more character to the plant. Collectors value this species for its rarity, drought tolerance, and naturally artistic growth habit that becomes increasingly dramatic with age. 🌞 Light Prefers bright light to full sun. Strong lighting encourages compact growth and better trunk development. 💧 Watering Allow the soil to dry well between waterings. Water more sparingly during cooler months. 🕳️ Soil Use a very fast draining cactus or caudiciform mix with added pumice or coarse mineral material. 🧪 Fertilizing Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted balanced fertilizer. 🪴 Repotting Repot only when necessary. A shallow pot with excellent drainage works very well.
