Eria ovata

🌿 A Delicate Jewel from the Forest Canopy 🌿 Discover the understated beauty of Eria ovata, a charming and uncommon orchid species prized for its elegant form and unique foliage. Native to the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia—including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia—Eria ovata thrives as an epiphyte in humid, shaded environments, often growing on tree trunks or mossy branches. This species features small, oval-shaped pseudobulbs topped with soft, narrow leaves, giving it a compact and graceful appearance. When in bloom, Eria ovata produces delicate inflorescences adorned with petite, creamy-yellow flowers, often with soft hairs on the petals and sepals—a trait characteristic of many Eria species. Its blooms may not be flashy, but their subtle charm and fine detail are a joy for true orchid enthusiasts and collectors. 🌱 Cultivation Tips for Eria ovata 🌡️ Temperature: Eria ovata prefers intermediate to warm conditions. Ideal temperatures range between 60–85°F (16–29°C). Protect it from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C). 💧 Watering: Keep the plant consistently moist during the growing season (spring to fall). Water thoroughly when the potting medium is just starting to dry out, but avoid letting it sit in water. Reduce watering slightly during winter dormancy, but never allow the plant to completely dry out. 🌫️ Humidity: High humidity is essential for Eria ovata. Maintain 60–80% humidity. Use a humidity tray or room humidifier if growing indoors. Good air circulation is important to prevent fungal or bacterial issues. 💡 Light: Provide bright, indirect light or light dappled by tree canopy. Avoid direct midday sun, which may scorch the leaves. An east-facing window or filtered light from a south-facing window works well. 🌱 Potting Medium & Repotting: Use a well-draining medium such as fine-grade bark mixed with sphagnum moss or perlite. This species enjoys good root aeration. Repot every 1–2 years or when the medium starts to break down. 🌼 Fertilizing: Feed lightly with a balanced orchid fertilizer (20-20-20) diluted to quarter or half strength every 2–3 weeks during active growth. Flush with clear water monthly to prevent salt buildup. Why Choose Eria ovata? This orchid is ideal for collectors seeking something different—something quietly exotic and rewarding. Its gentle growth habit, manageable size, and soft, fuzzy blossoms make it a standout among miniature and unusual orchids. Add Eria ovata to your collection and experience the quiet elegance of this forest treasure. 🌿✨ This is a blooming size bareroot divisions in a 3' or 4" pot, newly repotted, about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited!
