Empire Blackburn Wood Firebox, 44" Wide x 30" Tall Opening

The Blackburn 44" Wood Burning Firebox opens to a full 44 inches wide by 30 inches tall — a viewing area large enough that you won't be squinting at the fire through a porthole. This is a proper hearth centerpiece, engineered for wood fires up to 24" in length and built with a heavy-duty 3/4" bar stock grate that means business. The floor is finished in smooth floor refractory, and the firebox is designed to receive your choice of liner separately: Smooth, Traditional Brick, or Herringbone patterns, each available in Natural Concrete, White, Mocha, or Black. That's twelve distinct interior combinations, which means the firebox can read as a crisp modern statement or a classically rustic surround depending entirely on how you dress it. The liner is sold separately, giving you the freedom to spec it alongside your overall design rather than accepting a one-size-fits-all interior. Combustion air is managed through an easy-access air control, keeping flame management straightforward without requiring you to consult a manual every time you want to stoke the fire. The included mesh pull screen provides a first line of spark protection, and optional glass doors are available if you want a more finished look or need to reduce airflow when the fire dies down. What sets the Blackburn apart from a purely wood-dedicated firebox is its dual-fuel flexibility. It carries both vented and vent-free burner approval, meaning it can accommodate gas log sets down the road if your fuel preferences or building codes change. You're not locked in at the point of purchase — the firebox adapts. The unit vents through a 12" Empire WB Pipe, so make sure your chase or surround is planned accordingly. The Blackburn is part of a three-size collection — 36", 44", and 54" — so if this opening isn't quite right for your space, there's a sibling that likely is. The 44" model hits a practical sweet spot: wide enough for a generous fire, sized to fit most standard firebox openings without requiring a structural overhaul. Warranty coverage is tiered to what matters most: the combustion chamber is backed by a 10-year limited parts warranty, glass carries a limited lifetime warranty, other parts are covered for 3 years, and accessories for 1 year. That's the kind of coverage structure that suggests confidence in the core product — they're clearly not worried about the firebox itself. Liner sold separately. Glass doors optional.
