Emerald Spire Crabapple Tree

Unique foliage transitions from bronze-green to rich purple The Emerald Spire Crabapple tree is a delightful addition to any landscape, capturing attention with its striking foliage and compact growth habit. This tree's leaves emerge as a unique bronze-green, evolving into a stunning almost purple hue during the summer months. This color transformation not only enhances its aesthetic during the growing season but also adds an unexpected flair to your garden that changes with the seasons. Beyond its vivid leaves, this tree also offers a light display of light pink flowers in spring and small, ornamental crabapples in the fall, which attract birds and beneficial wildlife to your yard. The Emerald Spire is perfect for those with limited space as it maintains an upright, narrow form, making it an excellent choice for tight spots or as a stunning focal point in your garden. Whether you’re looking for year-round interest or a low-maintenance option for your yard, this variety of crabapple brings both beauty and functionality. Planting & Care 1. Planting: Choose a location that receives full sun, as the Emerald Spire thrives best with at least six hours of sunlight a day. The soil should be well-draining and rich in organic matter. When planting, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the ground surface, and backfill with soil, gently packing it down to remove air pockets. 2. Watering: Water thoroughly after planting, and continue to keep the soil consistently moist for the first growing season to establish strong roots. Once established, the Emerald Spire is moderately drought-tolerant but will benefit from regular watering during dry spells to maintain healthy foliage. 3. Pruning: Prune during late winter or early spring while the tree is still dormant to enhance its shape and encourage growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches and thin out the center to improve air circulation. This will promote healthier growth and reduce disease risk. 4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the amount based on the tree's age and size. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive soft growth that may be more susceptible to pests and diseases.
