Ember Tide (Open Edition)

The StoryClose-up of tall marsh grass illuminated by a bright orange sunset over the Chesapeake Bay, creating a glowing, fiery effect across the shoreline. The LocationThe tidal marshes of the Chesapeake Bay are among the most productive ecosystems on the Atlantic coast. These grasses — Spartina, Phragmites, and cordgrass — filter the Bay's waters, shelter juvenile fish and crabs, and define the shoreline that has sustained watermen and wildlife for centuries. Artist's Perspective"I walked into the marsh at golden hour and let the grass surround me. Shooting from inside the grass field, rather than at it, puts the viewer in the landscape instead of observing from a distance. The backlight turns every blade into a strand of copper." — Ryan Lott Curator's RecommendationThe horizontal orientation (landscape cut) makes this piece well-suited for living rooms, offices, and above fireplaces.
