Elna eXtend 264 Serger

Quick Summary:  The Elna 264 is the perfect entry-way into the world of serging. Compact, approachable, and incredibly functional, this 4/3-thread overlock machine is designed to neatly cut, seam, and finish your raw edges all in one pass. It eliminates the intimidation factor of serging while delivering the professional, retail-quality finishes your handmade garments deserve.  Whether you are constructing a cozy French terry sweater or finishing the raw seams on woven fabrics to prevent fraying, the Elna 264 offers high-speed performance up to 1,300 stitches per minute, ensuring your projects look just as beautiful on the inside as they do on the outside. Best for: This machine is ideal for beginners or occasional sewists ready to step up their garment construction game. If you've been finishing your seams with a zigzag stitch on a standard sewing machine and are ready for clean, professional edges that stretch with your fabric, this is your perfect starter serger. Why we Love it:  We know how intimidating that first serger can be. We curated the Elna 264 because it strips away the complexity and focuses entirely on the essentials of garment finishing. It's an incredibly sturdy, reliable machine that proves you don't need a massive budget or a complicated computer screen to get flawless, ready-to-wear (RTW) knit seams. Key Features: Mastering Knits: Thanks to the adjustable differential feed, you can perfectly gather or stretch your knit fabrics as you sew, completely eliminating wavy seams, stretched-out necklines, or puckered edges. Instant Rolled Hems: A built-in quick-change rolled hem device allows you to easily switch modes to create beautiful, delicate rolled edges on lightweight scarves, napkins, or ruffles without having to completely change the needle plate. Approachable Threading: With clear color-coded thread guides and an easily accessible lower looper mechanism, it takes the frustration out of the typical serger threading process. Specifications: Speed: Up to 1,300 Stitches Per Minute (SPM) Threads & Stitches: 3 or 4-thread overlock capabilities with 7 built-in stitch programs Max Stitch Width / Length: 3.1 to 7.3 mm cutting width / 1 to 4 mm stitch length Feed System: Adjustable Differential Feed (0.5 to 2.25 ratio) Convenience: Color-coded threading routes, easily accessible lower looper, adjustable foot pressure, and a quick-change rolled hem device FAQ: Is it hard to thread? While it requires manual threading, the Elna 264 is designed with a very clear, color-coded threading route mapped right on the machine, plus an accessible lower looper guide to make the process as straightforward as possible for beginners. Can it handle thick fabrics like denim? Yes! With an adjustable foot pressure dial and an easily retractable upper knife, you can adjust the machine to glide over heavier fabrics for neat, overcast edges on denim or canvas bags. Does it do a coverstitch for hemming t-shirts? No, the Elna 264 is a dedicated overlock/serger machine that trims and binds the edge of a seam. If you want a coverstitch (the double-line hem seen on the bottom of store-bought t-shirts), you will need a dedicated coverstitch machine like the Elna eXtend Covermax. Things to Know Before Buying: This is a manual, foundational serger. It does not feature the automated "air threading" systems found on our premium models, meaning you will need to thread the loopers by hand using the color-coded guides. It also sews strictly with 3 or 4 threads—if you require a 2-thread flatlock stitch, you will need to look at an upgraded model. Closest Comparisons: Elna 264 vs. Elna 664 Pro V2: The 664 Pro V2 is the next step up in the Elna serger line. While the 264 is strictly a 3/4-thread machine, the 664 Pro V2 adds 2-thread capabilities, a tilting needle clamp for easier needle changes, and a built-in program reference panel right on the front of the machine that tells you exactly how to set your tension dials. Elna 264 vs. Janome AirThread 2000D: The AirThread 2000D is a premium machine that literally threads its own loopers with a blast of air, whereas the Elna 264 requires manual, guided threading.
