Elite shungite — also called noble shungite — is the rarest, highest-carbon grade of shungite, traditionally associated with grounding and purification. Unlike the matte-black regular grade, it has a bright, silvery-black metallic sheen. These are raw, natural fragments, roughly 0.5–1.5" each, with their own glint and form. Quick facts Stone Elite (noble) shungite Composition Very high-carbon variety of shungite (metamorphic rock) Hardness (Mohs) ~3.5–4 Color Silvery-black, metallic sheen Origin Karelia, Russia Chakra Root Traditionally used for Grounding, purification, protection Care / Water-safe Water-safe; may shed a little carbon residue when new — rinse briefly and pat dry Meaning & history Elite shungite makes up only a small fraction of shungite deposits in Karelia, Russia, and its unusually high carbon content gives it a metallic luster that sets it apart from ordinary shungite. In crystal tradition it carries the same associations as regular shungite — grounding, purification, protection — but is often considered the more potent grade due to its rarity, and is linked to the root chakra. For a larger size range, see our Elite Shungite Stone (1.5" - 3"). How to use it Set a piece by your desk or devices, hold one during a quiet clearing meditation, or add it to a windowsill collection. Its small size makes it easy to carry in a pocket or pouch. There's no single correct way to use rough stone — let it sit somewhere you'll notice its shine. Care & cleansing Elite shungite is water-safe, but new pieces can shed a light dusting of black carbon residue — rinse briefly under cool water and pat dry rather than soaking, and skip abrasive cleaners. As a rough, unpolished piece, edges can be sharper than tumbled stones, so handle it gently. For energetic cleansing, many people prefer smoke, sound, or a few hours near (not in) direct sunlight to protect the shine. Frequently asked questions What makes elite shungite different from regular shungite? Elite (noble) shungite has a much higher carbon content, giving it a silvery, metallic sheen instead of the flat matte black of ordinary shungite. It's a decorative/symbolic piece, not a health product or medical device. Does elite shungite really block EMF? There's no scientific evidence that shungite, elite or otherwise, blocks electromagnetic fields. Any protective association comes from crystal tradition, not tested physics. Will it leave black marks on my hands? New shungite can shed a light residue, especially with damp hands. A quick rinse and dry when you first receive it usually settles this; afterward it's typically stable with normal handling. What size are these pieces? Each rough fragment measures roughly 0.5–1.5 inches. Since they're natural, exact size, shape, and shine vary piece to piece. Can I cleanse it with water or salt? A brief rinse is fine, but avoid prolonged soaking or salt, which can affect the surface over time. Pat dry promptly, and consider smoke, sound, or moonlight cleansing as gentler alternatives. Is elite shungite rarer than regular shungite? Yes — it makes up a much smaller share of shungite deposits, which is part of why it's often priced and regarded as the more prized grade.
