Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch #A124 is a highly esteemed release from Heaven Hill Distillery, known for its robust flavor and high proof. This batch, like its predecessors, showcases the distillery's commitment to producing full-flavored, uncut, and non-chill filtered bourbon. Here's a detailed look at this specific batch, along with insights into the barrel proof releases and the history of Heaven Hill. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch #A124 Details Age: 10 Years, 9 Months Proof: 119 Proof ABV: 59.5% This batch continues the tradition of Elijah Craig's barrel proof releases, offering a rich, deep, and complex bourbon experience. The high ABV of 59.5% ensures that the whiskey's character is bold and unmitigated, presenting flavors in their most concentrated form. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof releases are a testament to the craft of bourbon making at its most unadulterated. These bourbons are bottled straight from the barrel, without water added to lower the proof. This method preserves the natural flavors developed during the aging process, resulting in a richer and more intense tasting experience. The "barrel proof" aspect means that the alcohol content can vary between batches, depending on factors like the original barrel fill proof, the rate of evaporation during aging, and the barrel's location in the rickhouse. Founded in 1935 in Bardstown, Kentucky, Heaven Hill Distillery is one of America's largest independent, family-owned producers of distilled spirits. Named after William Heavenhill, the distillery has grown to become a beacon of bourbon heritage, surviving challenges such as the fire in 1996 that destroyed its production facilities. Despite this, Heaven Hill continued to produce whiskey, using other distilleries until their new Bernheim facility in Louisville was operational. Heaven Hill's portfolio includes a wide range of respected brands, but Elijah Craig has a special place in bourbon history. Named after the Baptist preacher who is often (though somewhat mythically) credited with inventing bourbon by aging corn whiskey in charred oak barrels, Elijah Craig is celebrated for its quality and innovation. The Barrel Proof releases, in particular, have garnered a dedicated following among bourbon enthusiasts for their authenticity and depth of flavor. The Elijah Craig Barrel Proof series began in 2013 and quickly became a favorite among bourbon lovers. These releases are known for their high proof, complexity, and variation from batch to batch, offering a unique tasting experience each time. The batches are typically released three times a year and are denoted by a batch code, with the first letter indicating the batch (A, B, or C), followed by the month and last two digits of the year of release. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch #A124 is a shining example of Heaven Hill's dedication to the art of bourbon. It represents the culmination of over 10 years of careful aging and the rich heritage of a distillery that has become synonymous with Kentucky's whiskey-making legacy. For collectors and aficionados, each barrel proof release is an opportunity to explore the nuanced differences that make each batch unique, while celebrating the enduring legacy of Elijah Craig and Heaven Hill.
