Elements of Architecture

"Elements of Architecture" is a comprehensive exploration of architectural fragments, focusing on details such as windows, facades, balconies, corridors, fireplaces, stairs, escalators, elevators, and toilets. The book delves into the micro-narratives of building elements, offering insights into their origins, influences, and evolution. Derived from Rem Koolhaas's exhibition at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, the monograph is a guide to understanding the fundamental aspects of architecture, considering technological advances, climatic adaptation, political, economic, and regulatory factors. Designed by Irma Boom, the book features a custom split-spine binding, a new introductory chapter, and translucent overlays with personal annotations by Koolhaas and Boom.
