EFS Basic Training (eBook)

EFS Basic Training (eBook) by Dave Tate and Jim Wendler 139 pages In putting together the material for this book, Dave and I spent hours discussing and debating what would be most beneficial to the reader. Did we want to put together a basic template and ignore the science? Or did we want to bore you with endless textbook-style references that add up to a headache and a lot of confusion? What we came up with is a book that gives you the textbook information in a very easy to read format with a lot of practical information. It’s very popular these days to talk above and beyond the heads of the average lifter. While this may sell books and an idea, at least for a while, it does nothing for the lifter. After some discussion, we took a step back and finally realized why we wanted to write this book. We wanted results — both in the weight room and on the platform. It is as simple as that. What we’ve discovered after answering countless questions on the Q&A and at dozens of seminars is that the concepts and the “why” need to be understood. Once a person masters the reasons why, the program truly becomes his own. Everyone has their own learning curve, and it may take a while. Everyone trains differently, but the concepts will remain the same. I promise you that once you get it, success and strength will be yours forever. - Jim Wendler  Book Outline    1.    Introduction •    Overview of the philosophy and benefits of conjugate training. 2.    Principles of Conjugate Training •    Explanation of the three main methods: maximal effort, dynamic effort, and repetition method. • Discuss the shortcomings of traditional periodization and the advantages of the conjugate system. 3.    Program Structure •    A detailed weekly training schedule includes specific exercises for maximum effort and dynamic effort days. •    Emphasis on rotating exercises frequently to avoid adaptation. 4.    Max Effort Method •    Guidelines for performing max effort exercises for both upper and lower body. •    Changing exercises regularly to challenge different muscle groups and prevent plateaus is essential. 5.    Dynamic Effort Method •    Instructions on how to implement dynamic effort training for speed and power development. •    Use of bands and chains to modify resistance and improve force production. 6.    Repetition Method •    Role of the repetition method in developing muscle hypertrophy and endurance. •    Strategies for incorporating supplemental and accessory exercises to support the main lifts. 7.    General Physical Preparedness (GPP) •    Importance of GPP in preparing the body for high-intensity training. •    Techniques and exercises for improving conditioning and recovery. 8.    Program Customization •    Tips on adapting the conjugate method to individual needs based on strength levels, weaknesses, and goals. •    Advice on monitoring progress and making adjustments to the training program. 9.    Common Mistakes and FAQs •    Address common errors and questions regarding the conjugate training method to help lifters avoid pitfalls. 10.    Conclusion •    Final thoughts on the effectiveness of conjugate training and encouraging lifters to embrace the methodology for long-term success.
