Tailspot Blenny - Philippines

Ecsenius stigmatura The Tailspot Blenny is a small, colorful reef fish that brings both personality and activity to a marine aquarium. Adults display a coppery-orange body with a distinctive black spot at the base of the tail, accented by a bright blue head and yellow markings near the eyes, creating a striking and easily recognizable appearance. Like other blennies, they lack a swim bladder and spend much of their time perched on rocks or darting between crevices, so an aquarium with plenty of rockwork, ledges, and hiding spots is essential. Tailspot Blennies typically grow to about 2.5 inches (6.5 cm) and are suitable for tanks of 10 gallons or larger. They are generally peaceful but may defend their perch from other blennies. A tight-fitting lid is recommended, as they are known to jump. In the wild, this species is found across shallow coral reefs and rocky areas of the western Pacific, including the Philippines and Indonesia. Omnivorous by nature, Tailspot Blennies thrive on a varied diet of algae-based foods, spirulina pellets, and frozen items such as mysis or brine shrimp. Feeding twice daily helps maintain their vibrant coloration and overall health. Considered reef-safe, they do not harm corals or invertebrates, and their natural grazing helps control algae growth, making them both a visually appealing and functional addition to the aquarium.
