Echeveria 'Goochie'

Description Echeveria 'Goochie' Care Guide FAQ/Common Issues   Echeveria 'Goochie' is a blue-green succulent from the Echeveria genus, native to the mountainous regions of Mexico and Central America. This drought-tolerant rosette succulent has traits that appeal to collectors, including its blue-green coloration with red margins and straightforward care requirements.   The standout feature is 'Goochie's blue-green foliage with red margins that deepen when exposed to sunlight. The leaves form compact, symmetrical rosettes with a thick, fleshy spoon shape typical of echeveria varieties. The contrast between the cool blue-green base and warm red edges gives it visual depth in any collection.   It produces small pink or coral flowers in spring and early summer, though the foliage remains the main visual element. The plant shows when it needs water through slight wilting of its lower leaves. You can leave it up to ten days without water.   Move it outside for summer growth, but protect it from rain to prevent root rot. Rotate 'Goochie' regularly for even development and avoid south-facing windows where intense afternoon sun can scorch the leaves. It works indoors or outdoors, in containers or terrariums, and is safe around cats and dogs.   Echeveria 'Goochie' grows well in bright indirect light with some direct sun exposure.   Water it every 7-10 days during the growing season, reducing to every 2-3 weeks in winter.   'Goochie' grows well in well-draining cactus and succulent soil with added perlite.   It prefers temperatures between 65-80°F and is not frost tolerant.   'Goochie' is a slow-growing succulent requiring minimal fertilizer during spring and summer.   It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11 and cannot tolerate frost below 32°F. It grows outdoors in Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, southern Georgia, coastal South Carolina, southern Nevada, coastal Oregon, southern Alabama, and southern Mississippi. It can also grow in protected microclimates within parts of North Carolina, Arkansas, and southern Tennessee where winter temperatures stay above freezing. Q: How often should I water Echeveria 'Goochie'? A: During spring and summer, water when the top inch of soil feels dry. In winter, extend the interval to once every 2-3 weeks as growth slows and water needs decrease. Q: Is it safe around pets? A: Echeveria 'Goochie' is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs. South-facing windows can cause leaf burn, so aim for bright light with several hours of morning or afternoon sun. Q: How fast does it grow? A: 'Goochie' grows slowly and maintains a compact rosette form with minimal fertilizer needs. Q: Can 'Goochie' survive a trip away from home? A: You can leave it without water for up to ten days. After that period, the lower leaves will begin to show visible wilting. Q: Is this beginner friendly? A: 'Goochie' has a visible signal when it needs water. The lower leaves will soften and wilt slightly when the soil has dried out completely, making it straightforward to know when to water.
