Easy Tie Concealed 8×8 Post Base

Largest Easy Tie Kit with a Clean Install An 8×8 post is doing serious structural work — and most post bases make that obvious. But all the bolts and external brackets wrapped around the base of you timber don’t do it any favors visually. The Easy Tie handles the connection differently. The hot-dip galvanized knife plate slides into a slot cut in the base of the post, tucking all the hardware beneath and inside the timber where it belongs. What you see at ground level is clean wood sitting on a low-profile galvanized base. Serious Capacity for a Concealed Base The 8×8 kit is perfect for those medium sized projects – pergolas, deck posts, pavilions, even small timber frame homes! But if you’re building something heavier – a year-round timber frame home, weather-proof event pavilion, or any outdoor structure requiring maximum uplift and compression resistance – the best of the best is the 8×8 Post Base Anchor Kit for Concrete.  How It Goes Together First, the knife plate anchors to your concrete slab with your choice of 3/8″ concrete anchors and the standoff slides over the top. Next, you cut the slot in the bottom of the heavy timber post. After that,  just set the post down on the knife plate and drive the four self-drilling dowels straight through one face of the post. No need to lay it out perfectly – the dowel screws drill through the wood and knife plate, then remain in the timber providing the shear strength needed, all in one step. At seven inches long, they’re sized just right. The other side is protected, leaving only one face to plug for complete concealment. What You’ll Need Circular saw, chainsaw, or other method of cutting the slot in the post bottom 3/8 in. concrete anchors — wedge anchors or Titen concrete screws Hammer drill and 3/8 in. concrete drill bit to anchor the base plate to the slab High torque drill or impact driver for the self-drilling dowels into the post Wood plugs/dowel rod (optional, for a finished appearance) Raised Off the Concrete The 1 in. post base standoff keeps the post bottom elevated off the slab. On an 8×8, end grain exposure is a bigger concern than on smaller posts — more surface area means more moisture absorption and more potential for deterioration over time. That 1 in. lift is a small detail that does meaningful work over the life of the structure. Built for Exterior Use The entire kit is hot-dip galvanized steel – rated for an exterior and humid environments. The galvanized finish handles the conditions that do the most damage at ground level: standing moisture, soil contact, and seasonal weather cycles. Just the self-drilling dowels are zinc-plated.
