Early Glow™ Ohio Buckeye

Why it rocks: Early Glow™ Buckeye is a stunning native tree selection that’s transforming landscapes and capturing homeowner hearts! Developed by Mike Yanny of JN Plants, this remarkable selection is now part of the Chicagoland Grows® Collection. What sets Early Glow™ apart from other Ohio Buckeye varieties is its breathtaking early fall color display. As summer fades, this tree bursts into a fiery spectacle of bright red and orange leaves that will make your landscape come alive with warmth and vibrancy. This tree is also a champion of cleanliness, producing minimal fruit litter, which means less mess for you to manage. While it does produce a few ornamental nuts, it’s crucial to remember that these nuts are not safe for human consumption. Early Glow™ Buckeye has a strong resistance to common leaf problems that often plague other Ohio Buckeyes, such as leaf blotch and leaf scorch. Its lush, dark green leaves stay pristine throughout the summer, ensuring your landscape looks its best all season long. In the spring, watch in awe as it unfurls palm-like leaves, followed by spectacular panicles of striking yellow trumpet-shaped flowers adorned with orange centers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. This tree’s symmetrical, oval canopy becomes round with age and provides ample shade, transforming your outdoor space into a cool retreat. With its dynamic presence and multitude of benefits, Early Glow™ Buckeye is not just an ornamental shade tree; it’s an investment in beauty and sustainability that will enrich your home's landscape for years to come. Where to put it: Early Glow™ Buckeye will bring vibrant life to any landscape! This medium-sized, shade-tolerant tree pairs perfectly with larger shade trees like Honeylocust and American Elm, making it an ideal companion for creating a lush, layered environment. With its disease-resistant foliage and minimal fruit litter, it's the go-to choice for wide medians, boulevards, and your front or back yard, all while maintaining a clean, tidy appearance. This tree will thrive in natural settings too, gracing parks and golf courses with its striking presence. Be sure to steer clear of planting it near where pets, horses, or grazing livestock roam, as all parts of this tree are toxic if consumed. To ensure it flourishes, remember to plant it at least 15 feet away from buildings, giving it the space it needs to grow and shine. What it needs: Early Glow™ Ohio Buckeye prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. This tree is tolerant of occasional drought, alkaline soil, slightly saturated soils, and Black Walnut toxicity. Overall, it is relatively low-maintenance. To ensure a strong & healthy root system, please follow our tree care guidelines during the initial growing seasons.
