Dynafit Radical 88 Ski

88 mm All-Round Touring Ski Dynafit Radical 88 Ski The Dynafit Radical 88 Ski is the one-pair answer for a tourer who skis a full season on the same skis, from a frozen morning skin track to soft afternoon snow. A poplar-paulownia core, a two-hardwood blend that damps chatter without adding much mass, sits inside a full side-wall that carries edge pressure straight into the snow, and an 88 mm waist stays honest on ice while still floating in fresh snow. At 1,180 g per ski (166 cm), rising to 1,320 g per ski (182 cm), the Radical 88 climbs efficiently and holds an edge on firm snow, which suits classic touring, long traverses, and days that change conditions twice. Expert Review Specs and length guidance reviewed by CCBB ski staff. Is This the Right Ski for You? Best For Tourers wanting one ski for the season at 1,180 g per ski (166 cm), with a full side-wall for edge hold on firm snow and an 88 mm waist for mixed conditions. Consider Another Ski If You want the lightest possible ski for long ascents, where the Blacklight 88 saves 120 g per ski at 158 cm, or you ski soft snow almost exclusively and want more width. Why We Like It The poplar-paulownia core is new for this season and blends two light hardwoods, which settles the ski down on firm snow without pushing weight past 1,180 g per ski (166 cm). A full side-wall runs the length of the ski, so edge pressure goes into the snow instead of being absorbed by a cap shoulder. At 1,180 g per ski (166 cm) the Radical 88 stays light enough for long ascents while skiing with more authority than a carbon speed ski. Dynafit builds a matched skin, the Speedskin Radical 88, so skin fit is settled by article rather than by trimming. Best Uses Classic ski touring across a full season Long traverses and multi-day trips Days that run firm early and soft late Skiers wanting one pair rather than a quiver Pairing with a pin-tech touring binding Ski Selection Advice The Radical 88 Ski runs 158 through 182 cm and adds 70 g per ski per step. We size all-round touring skis near a skier's alpine length, then shorten by a few centimeters for skiers who spend most of their time on tight, steep terrain and lengthen for skiers who ski fast on open slopes. The constant characteristics construction means the ski behaves the same way across the run, so a length change moves float and edge length rather than changing how the ski feels. Match the binding to your boot sole norm rather than to the ski. Any brake needs to clear the 88 mm waist. The Speedskin Radical 88 is cut for this ski and fits without trimming. 📏 Technical Specifications Manufacturer specs · Click to expand Shape and Weight Weight 1,110 g per ski (158 cm), 1,180 g per ski (166 cm), 1,250 g per ski (174 cm), 1,320 g per ski (182 cm) Waist Width 88 mm Lengths 158, 166, 174, 182 cm Turn Radius Not published. The Blacklight 88 Flex 70 saves 120 g per ski at 158 cm with a carbon layup, which is real on a long ascent. The Radical 88 adds a full side-wall and a poplar-paulownia core, which is what a skier feels on a firm, fast descent. Shop the Dynafit Blacklight 88 Flex 70 Touring Ski Radical 88 vs. Dynafit Ridge 95 Ski The Ridge 95 is the descent-oriented ski, wider underfoot with a titanal sheet, a light aluminum alloy laminate, and a directional flex for skiers who ski freeride lines and accept a heavier climb. The Radical 88 is the all-rounder, lighter and narrower, for tourers who want the climb and the descent balanced rather than tilted downhill. Shop the Dynafit Ridge 95 Ski Radical 88 vs. Dynafit W Radical 88 Ski Same construction, same 88 mm waist, and identical published weights at the three shared lengths. The men's run reaches 182 cm and the women's starts at 151 cm, so the choice is size run and graphics rather than performance. Shop the Dynafit W Radical 88 Ski Common Questions Who should buy the Dynafit Radical 88 Ski? The Dynafit Radical 88 Ski suits tourers who want one pair of skis for a whole season. At 1,180 g per ski (166 cm) with an 88 mm waist and a full side-wall, it climbs efficiently enough for long days and holds an edge well enough for firm descents, which makes it a sensible pick for classic touring rather than for a specialist at either end. What bindings work with the Dynafit Radical 88 Ski? A ski carries no sole norm, so compatibility comes from your boot and binding rather than from the ski. Match the binding to your boot sole norm, and check that any brake clears the 88 mm waist. Bring your boots to the mount appointment so the pairing can be confirmed before anything is drilled. What turn radius does the Dynafit Radical 88 Ski have? Dynafit publishes no turn radius for this ski, so none is listed. The shape uses a single radius scaled to each length, which keeps the ski feeling consistent across the size run but means one radius number would describe only one length. Tip and tail dimensions are not published either. Waist width is 88 mm across the run. What is new about the Radical 88 for this season? The core is the change. The Radical 88 moves to a poplar-paulownia wood core, where poplar adds damping and paulownia keeps weight down. Published weights run 1,110 g per ski (158 cm) to 1,320 g per ski (182 cm). Specs from earlier Radical 88 skis do not carry over, so figures found elsewhere may describe the previous construction. What length should I choose in the Dynafit Radical 88 Ski? The run is 158, 166, 174, and 182 cm, at 70 g per ski per step. We size all-round touring skis near a skier's alpine length, going shorter for tight steep terrain and longer for open, faster slopes. Because the construction holds constant characteristics across the run, a length change alters float and edge length rather than the feel. What skin fits the Dynafit Radical 88 Ski? The Speedskin Radical 88 is cut for this ski, matching the 88 mm waist and the tail shape, so it fits without trimming. A universal skin trimmed to width will work but adds weight and will not follow the tail as cleanly. Our Verdict The Dynafit Radical 88 Ski is the sensible choice for a tourer who wants one pair to cover the season. A new poplar-paulownia core and a full side-wall give the Radical 88 more edge hold on firm snow than a carbon speed ski, and at 1,180 g per ski (166 cm) it still climbs efficiently on long days. An 88 mm waist is the width that asks the fewest compromises across mixed conditions, and the matched Speedskin Radical 88 settles skin fit. Skiers who want the fastest climb or the strongest descent will find a more specialised ski, but few cover as much ground as well.
