Blue Daze Dwarf Morning Glory

Blue Daze Dwarf Morning Glory (Evolvulus glomeratus)Blue Daze Dwarf Morning Glory is a heat-loving, sun-first plant that covers ground and spills from containers with a steady stream of true-blue flowers. Its low, spreading habit fills gaps quickly, making beds look finished and planters look fuller without a lot of extra plants. The silvery green foliage adds a soft, calming tone that pairs easily with bright summer colors or deeper greens. In warm climates it behaves like a tender perennial, and in colder climates it is a dependable warm-season annual that keeps blooming until cold weather. Distinctive FeaturesThis plant forms a dense, mounded to trailing mat of fine-textured, slightly fuzzy, silvery green foliage topped with small, funnel-shaped blue flowers. Bloom can run from late spring through fall in warm conditions, with flowers opening during the day and often closing in the evening or on cloudy days. The overall look is airy and light rather than bulky, which makes it an excellent mixer in landscapes and containers. With good drainage and sun, it stays tidy while providing consistent color. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun for best flowering and the tightest habit. Soil: Well-drained soil, and it adapts to average to lean soils as long as roots do not stay wet. Water: Medium moisture to establish, then moderate watering; allow soil to dry slightly between waterings and avoid waterlogged conditions. USDA Zones: 8 to 11. Mature Size: About 9 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 36 inches wide, with more trailing spread in containers. Notable Traits: Long bloom season, good heat tolerance, and flowers that may close at night or during cloudy weather. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use a large bowl or hanging basket as a focal point where the true-blue flowers can read as a bright color cloud all season. Ground Cover: Great for sunny beds where you want quick coverage and a soft, spreading edge. Containers: A reliable spiller that cascades over rims and connects other plants into a cohesive look. Border Front: Fits the front of sunny borders, softening hard lines with a low, mounded habit. Hot Sites: Performs well in summer heat when drainage is sharp and watering is consistent during establishment. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Water deeply, then let the top layer of soil dry slightly before watering again, especially in containers. Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth in containers to support continuous flowering without pushing weak, lush growth. Pruning: Shear or pinch lightly if needed to thicken the plant and refresh the shape midseason. Drainage: Prioritize fast drainage to reduce stress and keep the plant vigorous through the season. Cold Weather: Protect from frost, and treat as a warm-season annual where winters are cold. Why Choose Blue Daze Dwarf Morning Glory? True-Blue Color: Delivers a clear, bright blue that is hard to find in summer flowers. Season-Long Bloom: Keeps flowering for a long stretch, often from late spring until cold weather. Heat Performance: Handles summer sun and heat well when grown in well-drained soil. Flexible Habit: Works as a spreading ground cover or a trailing spiller in containers. Easy Mixing: Silvery foliage and airy flowers blend smoothly with bold blooms and textured leaves. If you want a low plant that makes sunny spaces feel calmer and more complete, Blue Daze Dwarf Morning Glory is an easy addition. Give it full sun and sharp drainage, then keep watering consistent while it establishes for the best long-term performance. Let it trail from pots, spill over walls, or spread into a soft carpet at the front of the bed. Once it hits its stride, it keeps the blue coming with minimal fuss.
