Dune Incense Sticks

Incense in Asia was commonly used for rituals and fragrance— a precursor to perfume. Other uses included measuring time, repelling insects, and as a preservative for medicine. This handmade incense by Hyungi Park is crafted from ethically sourced organic woods, herbs, resins, and oils. Simply place incense in an incense holder of your choice and light the tip of the incense. Due to the handmade nature of the incense, appearances may vary.   'Dune' is a part of Hyungi's Cityscape Collection, an evolving incense collection shaped by her travels & memories. Each fragrance is a keepsake — a fragment of place & time, the echo of a journey, the intimacy of scent as a diary.   Dune Tujunga, CA: Tanned leather, desert flora, & dry spice mingling under the California sun, echoing the warmth of its rugged peaks. Park obtained her BFA in Sculpture + Extended Media at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Her works recreate seemingly traditional rituals into fictionalized ceremonies with new age health trends and consecrating them. Her practice involves incense, historically used to measure time, as markers to reimagine new time structures for certain gestures. Her recent installation and digital works evolve from performances, attempting to replicate the visceral, and immortalizing it. Hyungi currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA as tattooer, incense maker, bookbinder, designer, and runs BABOSHOP, a multi use space and studio.    To learn more about incense, check out this New York Times article featuring Hyungi Park: The Rise of Incense
