These edible leaves are valued for both their culinary and medicinal uses. The remarkable sweetness of Dulce Leaves comes from hernandulcin, a non-caloric sweetener that is 500 times sweeter than sugar. Unlike regular sugar, hernandulcin isn’t digestible by the body, making it an excellent choice for diabetics as it won’t impact blood sugar levels. Chefs adore Dulce Leaves for their unique ability to add intense, natural sweetness to dishes without extra calories or sugar. Whether used as a sweet treat, in fruit salads, or to infuse other culinary creations, they offer a refreshing, flavorful touch. Their medicinal properties also add to their appeal, making them a versatile ingredient to enjoy mindfully. Recipes and Tips: Due to their flavor profile, Dulce Leaves can be incorporated into a plethora of culinary delights.  For cocktails, their intense sweetness serves as a perfect complement, whether as a garnish or muddled into the drink itself, enhancing the overall taste and aroma. In pastries, their vibrant green hue adds visual appeal while infusing a natural sweetness and hint of mint to cakes, cookies, and tarts.  When it comes to lemonade, steeping or blending Dulce Leaves into the mixture creates a revitalizing beverage with a unique sweetness and refreshing minty undertone. Whether in cocktails, pastries, or lemonade, these versatile leaves add a touch of sophistication and flavor complexity to every dish they grace. Nutritional Facts: Dulce leaves are valued for their exceptional sweetness and versatility, serving as both an herbal sweetener and a natural remedy.  Despite their intense sweetness, they are relatively low in calories, making them an ideal choice for enhancing flavor in dishes without significantly increasing calorie intake.  The sweetness in Dulce leaves comes from hernandulcin, a compound that differs from traditional sugar (sucrose) in that it is not metabolized by the body in the same way.  This non-caloric sweetener does not raise blood sugar levels, making it particularly beneficial for diabetics who wish to enjoy a sweet taste without the associated risks of regular sugars.  In addition to their role as a sweetener, Dulce leaves have been traditionally used as a breath mint, offering a refreshing option for freshening breath after meals. Their combination of low calories, non-caloric sweetness, and traditional uses highlights their unique benefits and versatility. Storage and Usage Tips: Best kept in your refrigerator between 36 to 40°F in their clamshell packaging. This helps preserve their quality and ensures they remain ready to enhance your dishes with their sweet and aromatic flavor.
