DSSC Intermediate Bite Pad

DSSC Intermediate Bite Pad Dog Sport Supply Co. · Available in DURACOT™ (Multiple Colors) & Jute · Heavier Padding · Full-Mouth Grip Development The DSSC Intermediate Bite Pad bridges the gap between soft puppy pillow and hard, adult-level protection equipment. Built with heavier padding and a resilient bite pad, it's the right tool for adolescent working dogs, typically 12 to 18 months, who've outgrown puppy gear but aren't ready for full decoy work. Use it to build a solid, full-mouth grip and carry your dog's foundation work into the next stage of training. Available in DURACOT™, offered in multiple colors, or Jute for the traditional bite feel. Heavier padding for the next stage: More substantial padding than puppy targeting cuffs, giving adolescent dogs the resistance they need to build bite confidence without the intensity of adult protection equipment. Resilient bite bar: A firm, consistent bar encourages the dog to commit to a full, deep grip rather than a shallow surface bite. Sets the foundation for correct grip mechanics before moving to advanced equipment. Built for the 12 to 18 month window: Sized and padded for adolescent working dogs transitioning out of puppy targeting and into structured bite development. Available in DURACOT™, multiple colors: Dog Sport Supply Co.'s exclusive double-layer fabric, offered in a range of colors so you can match your training kit or rotate equipment across dogs. Available in Jute: The traditional protection sport bite surface. Firm and familiar for handlers running dogs on jute equipment elsewhere in their program. Handler control: Designed to give the handler a secure hold during presentation and grip work, so training stays controlled and repeatable. Specs Type: Intermediate bite pad / sleeve Padding: Heavier than puppy targeting cuffs, lighter than adult protection sleeves Bite surface: Resilient bite bar for full-mouth grip development Materials: DURACOT™ (multiple colors) / Jute (select at purchase) Brand: Dog Sport Supply Co. Best for: Adolescent working dogs, 12–18 months, transitioning from puppy targeting to structured bite work. IGP/Schutzhund, French Ring, KNPV, PSA foundation training. Where This Fits in Your Training Progression Puppy targeting cuffs: Soft, lightweight equipment for early bite targeting and prey drive introduction in young puppies. DSSC Intermediate Bite Pad (this item): Heavier padding and a resilient bite bar for adolescent dogs, typically 12 to 18 months, building a full-mouth grip and bite confidence. Adult protection sleeves and equipment: Full hard equipment for dogs with an established grip, ready for advanced decoy work and sport-specific training. DURACOT™ vs. Jute — Material Guide DURACOT™: Dog Sport Supply Co.'s exclusive double-layer woven fabric, available in multiple colors. More resistant to bite wear than standard materials, built for dogs in frequent training sessions. Jute: Natural fiber with a firm, traditional bite surface used across IGP, French Ring, and KNPV training for decades. The right call if your dog already trains on jute equipment and you want a consistent bite feel. Not sure? Go DURACOT™ for durability and color choice. Go Jute to match existing jute equipment in your program. Quick tip: Don't rush the transition. Move a dog to the Intermediate Bite Pad once they're consistently engaging puppy targeting equipment with confidence, and hold them here until the grip is full and calm before advancing to adult protection equipment. Skipping stages builds bad grip habits that are harder to correct later. Designed by Dog Sport Supply Co. for handlers building the next generation of working dogs, one training stage at a time. FAQs What age is the Intermediate Bite Pad meant for? Typically dogs in the 12 to 18 month range who have a solid foundation on puppy targeting cuffs. This isn't a hard age cutoff. It's about where the dog is in their bite development. Look for consistent, confident engagement on puppy equipment before moving up. How is this different from a puppy targeting cuff? Padding and bite bar. The Intermediate Bite Pad carries significantly heavier padding and a resilient bite bar built to take a full-mouth grip, where puppy cuffs are soft and lightweight for early targeting work. It's a step up in resistance without jumping straight to adult protection equipment. Is this a replacement for adult protection sleeves? No. This is a bridge tool. It's built to develop grip confidence and full-mouth bite mechanics in adolescent dogs before they move on to hard, adult-level protection equipment. Using it past that stage just delays the dog's progression. Which material and color should I choose? DURACOT™ is the more durable option for frequent training and comes in multiple colors, useful if you're color-coding equipment across dogs or handlers. Jute is the right call if your dog already trains on jute equipment elsewhere and you want a consistent bite feel across your program. How do I know my dog is ready to move on from this pad? Look for a calm, full grip held with confidence under mild pressure, not a shallow or chewy bite. Once that's consistent across sessions, the dog is generally ready to progress toward adult protection equipment under proper decoy guidance.
