Drumdial Precision Drum and Banjo Tuner

The DrumDial is highly regarded among banjo players. It eliminates the guesswork of tap-tuning by measuring the tension of the banjo head in millimeters. This helps players quickly achieve perfectly even tension across all brackets and reproduce their favorite tone.  We've used it in our shop now and it makes getting the proper head tension for the tone your want to get out of your banjo a breeze! Proper head tension is the single most important factor to getting the best tone out of your banjo. Banjo heads shift and stretch over time and seasons, sacrificing tone and action. The Pocket-Dial makes it easy to measure and adjust head tension, so you can make sure your banjo is sounding its very best. • Ultra-precise measurement & repeatability • Lightweight, compact and stores in your banjo case • Easy to use simple 0 to 10 point scale adjustment Key Features & Benefits Consistent Tone: Eliminates uneven tension, which is the primary cause of dead spots, strange overtones, and intonation issues. Repeatability: Once you find the tension that gives you the best sound, you can record the number. You can easily return to this exact setup after changing heads or seasons. No Ear Training Required: Ideal for players who struggle to hear the exact pitch of a tapped head. Ideal Banjo Head Settings Unlike drums, there isn't a universally "correct" number on the dial for banjos. The ideal setting depends on your personal taste and banjo style: 88 - 90: Provides a warmer, slightly more mellow sound. 90 - 92: The sweet spot for most bluegrass players. It delivers a crisp, bright "crack" and maximum volume and sustain. 92+: Used by some players for an exceptionally crisp, punchy tone. “Proper head tension is critical and adjustments when I’m on tour are an absolute necessity. The Pocket-Dial makes it so simple. Love it!” - Enda Scahill, (endascahill.com) Irish Tenor Banjoist, Recording Artist, Instructor and Founding Member of We Banjo 3
