Driving Me Crazy

KENNY SCHARF - DRIVING ME CRAZY Driving Me Crazy, created in 1984 by Kenny Scharf, is an artwork marked by the artist's signature, crafted with gouache and ink on paper. This piece emerges from Scharf's exploration into themes of African art and tribal influences that were prevalent in the 1980s. It showcases his participation in the "Figuration Libre France/USA" exhibition, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, where Scharf introduced the concept of "Jetsonism." This philosophy entails a unique, alien-like coded language, replete with tribal motifs, understandable only to the artist and those who embrace this cultural movement. The artwork prominently features these symbols within the teeth of the character portrayed. "Driving Me Crazy" acts as a foundational study for future tribal sculptures envisioned by Scharf, introducing the "Scary Guy" motif — a recurring figure in his art that embodies the artist's edgier and more spontaneous facets. Driving Me Crazy is a hand-signed unique work and it measures 23.8x18.8 in.
