Winter Feed Board for 8 Frame Hives

Need insurance? Our Winter Feed Boards (WFB) allow you to feed your hives through the long winter months.  Our 8 frame board contains 8 pounds of feed! That's double what most of our competitors offer. It has a wire mesh bottom that allows you to inspect your hives and also prevents candy from collapsing and crushing your bees. We also attach a spacer under the wire so that bees don't become trapped under the weight of the feed. If you feel your hive may not be up to weight, the feed board provides nutrition to get it through until spring.  Our feed boards are based on extensive field trials the winter of 2018-19 among several DRB customers across the Mid-West. We first developed four separate recipes into feed boards and gave those out to select customers in different locales, from cold to more mild winter climates.  There was one recipe that was the overwhelming winner! That  recipe is now being offered in our DRB Winter Feed Boards (DRB WFB).   The DRB WFB contains a high carb feed with protein and vitamins for hive health.  The board may be refilled in subsequent years with our Feed Board Refill Kit #621RF (sold separately-available soon).  Also available for 10 frame hives (please see item # 621-WFB).  DRB WFB are to be used for emergency feeding of beehives in cold winter months.  If you feel your hive may not have the resources to get through winter (or you just want an insurance policy) then the DRB WFB is the answer. Simply place the feed board on after daytime HIGH temperatures are consistently BELOW 50 degrees F.  In our area we put them on between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but they can be placed on the hive anytime they are needed throughout the winter. Winter Feed Boards will begin shipping the second or third week of October 2024.
