Dovetail Markers

Solid-Billet Precision Engineered for Flawless Hand-Cut Dovetails Unmatched layout precision crafted for a lifetime. Machined from a single billet of aircraft-grade aluminum, Blue Spruce Toolworks Dovetail Markers deliver clean, dependable lines without the risk of shifting components. Featuring crisp, laser-engraved ratio and degree markings, these markers streamline your joinery process on every board. Layout is the foundation of flawless joinery, and the Blue Spruce Toolworks Dovetail Marker ensures your layout starts with absolute precision. Unlike multi-piece or adjustable gauges that can shift, flex, or loosen over time, each marker is carefully machined from one solid billet of aircraft-grade aluminum. With no joints or fasteners to fail, there is nothing that can ever get knocked out of alignment, giving you rock-solid consistency across every pin and tail. Every marker features ultra-crisp, laser-engraved markings specifying both the traditional ratio and the exact angle in degrees for easy identification at your workbench. Whether you are laying out narrow pins, thick tail boards, or intricate hand-cut joint patterns, the substantial feel and dead-square reference surfaces sit flat against your stock for drift-free scribe lines. Understanding the right slope for your project is key to joint strength and aesthetics: 1:8 Ratio (~7.1°): Traditionally preferred for hardwoods. The lower angle provides ample shear strength while maintaining a subtle, elegant pin profile. 1:6 Ratio (~9.5°) & 1:7 Ratio (~8.1°): Recommended for softwoods and softer hardwood species. The steeper angle creates greater mechanical interlock, counteracting the compressibility of softer wood fibers. Elevate your joinery workflow with layout tools engineered to perform accurately every single time you touch chisel to wood.
