Jeffers Double Ratchet Calf Puller (& Replacement Parts)

Jeffers Double Ratchet Calf Puller with OB Chain & Breechen Strap – 66" to 78" Adjustable Calving Tool The Jeffers Double Ratchet Calf Puller Kit is designed for assisted calving when controlled traction is needed during difficult cattle deliveries (dystocia). The double ratchet system allows alternating pressure on each leg to help guide the calf during delivery. Built for strength and repeated farm use, this calving tool provides control when assistance is required. This calving tool is intended for use by experienced handlers during assisted deliveries when intervention is required. Key Features: Double Ratchet System: Alternates traction between each leg for controlled calving assistance Controlled Traction: Advances one leg at a time with each handle movement to help improve alignment during delivery Center Hook Option: Allows single-pull use when alternating traction is not needed High Pull Capacity: Designed to handle approximately 3,000–4,500 lbs under controlled application conditions. Intended for use with steady, controlled traction during assisted calving Adjustable Length: 66" standard assembled length, extends to 78" with included 12" extension rod Corrosion-Resistant Steel: Carbon steel with zinc, nickel, and chrome coating for added protection against rust Lightweight Strength Design: Solid steel rods are CNC-machined internally to reduce weight while maintaining strength for easier handling Includes: Two 33" rods (66" total assembled length) 1 rod with ratchet mechanism 1 standard rod (no ratchet) 12" extension rod (included): Optional use to extend working length up to 78" 25" breechen: Positions the puller during use 72" nylon breechen strap: Secures breechen in place 30" OB (obstetrical) chain: Attaches to calf for traction Note: Only one OB chain is included. Additional chains may be needed depending on calving conditions and setup. Basic Use Steps: Position the breechen: Secure the breechen behind the cow to stabilize the puller Attach OB chain: Place the included chain above the calf’s fetlock and secure for controlled traction (additional chains may be used if needed) Apply controlled traction: Use the ratchet to alternate pulling one leg at a time Monitor progress: Continue with steady, controlled movement and stop if excessive resistance occurs Note: Proper technique and timing are important. Consult a veterinarian if unsure about use. Important Information: Replacement ratchet assembly sold separately OB handles and additional OB chains sold separately Additional OB chains may be required depending on calf size and positioning Use only with proper training and veterinary guidance when needed Apply steady, controlled traction during use to reduce risk of injury to the cow or calf. Avoid excessive force or sudden pulling Please see instructional video below.   FAQ: What is a calf puller used for? A calf puller is used to assist with difficult cattle births by applying controlled traction when natural delivery is not progressing. How does a double ratchet calf puller work? The double ratchet system applies alternating traction to each leg. One leg advances at a time with each handle movement, helping guide the calf through the birth canal more gradually. This method helps improve control during assisted calving compared to single-pull tools. What is the center hook used for? The center hook allows a single-pull setup when alternating traction is not required, depending on the calving situation. How much force should be used with a calf puller? Only steady, controlled traction should be applied during use. Excessive force can increase the risk of injury to the cow or calf. Proper timing and technique are important for safe use. What is the total length of this calf puller? The assembled length is 66 inches using two rods. The included 12-inch extension rod increases the working length to 78 inches when needed. Can one person use a calf puller? Some experienced users may operate it alone, but two people are often recommended for better control and safety during assisted calving. When should a calf puller not be used? A calf puller should not be used if the calf is not properly positioned, if the cervix is not fully dilated, or if the cause of difficulty is unknown. In these cases, veterinary assistance is recommended to avoid injury to the cow or calf. Is veterinary guidance recommended? Yes. Veterinary guidance is recommended for difficult calving situations or when there is uncertainty about proper timing or technique.
