Dorsett Golden Apple Tree

Get Bushels of Fruit in Hot Climates Most apple trees need plenty of cold weather before they can set fruit, which warm climates simply can't offer. But there's a rare exception: Our Dorsett Golden Apple Tree. Whether you live in Florida or Southern California, you can grow this apple tree and harvest a heavy crop of sweet summer apples each year . Pick a perfect pair – it's easy. Because the Dorsett Golden Apple begins flowering earlier than most apple trees, you have to plant another variety that flowers at the same time for cross-pollination to be successful. That's why the Anna Apple tree is the perfect pollen partner for Dorsett Golden – their early bloom times are the same! Plus, it's an early producer. Your apples will be ready to pick in mid-June to early July. To give you an idea of the yield potential from one tree in a warm climate, the test orchards at the University of Florida produced an average of 80 pounds of apples on young, 5-year-old Dorsett Golden trees! At maturity, each tree can produce from 5 to 10 bushels each. Best of all, each apple has the perfect taste combination of sweetness balanced with tartness. The flavor is similar to the Golden Delicious apple, and the fruit has a crispy crunch when you bite into it. But you won't find the Dorsett Golden apple in your supermarket because it's a specialty apple that you can only grow in your own backyard. And its disease-resistant quality, as well as its many other merits, makes the entire process super easy. Finally, no pruning is needed thanks to our hard work. When your Dorsett Golden Apple tree arrives, all you have to do is plant it. Don't worry about having to learn pruning techniques, because our experts have already done that work for you. Your tree will arrive properly pruned and perfectly shaped with the exact number of branches that it needs for fruit production. Results delivered, straight to your door. Planting: For best results, find a location with well-drained soil and full sun - about 6 hours of sunlight per day. Once you've selected a location, dig a hole that's twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Then, place your tree, back fill and tamp down the soil, and water to settle the soil. Finally, mulch to retain moisture. *Tip: Make sure your mulch is not touching the base of the trunk. 2. Watering: Your apple will benefit from a regular watering each week, though you may have to water more during times of drought. If you're not sure when to water, simply check the soil down to a depth of about 2 or 3 inches - if it's dry here, it's time to water. 3. Pruning: Once your tree has become established and is starting to bear fruit, it will need some periodic, moderate pruning. Only prune the tree during times of dormancy, making sure to remove any vigorous, upright stems and weak, damaged or dead branches.
