Doc Holliday 15 Year Buff Turkey

Bobby Says: Every once in a while, a whiskey comes along with a backstory that's almost too crazy to believe. This is one of those bottles. Whiskey fans know it as "Buff Turkey," a legendary bourbon born from a one-time collaboration that was never supposed to happen. Back in 2009, Buffalo Trace distilled bourbon using Wild Turkey's iconic 75/13/12 mashbill. The whiskey was then aged at Wild Turkey, but when it came time to bottle it, Wild Turkey decided it didn't fit their house profile. Instead of becoming a Wild Turkey release, the barrels quietly made their way into the hands of independent bottlers, creating one of the most talked-about sourced bourbons in recent memory. This 15-year-old Doc Holliday is bottled at 123 proof (61.5% ABV) and is one of those rare bottles. On the nose, you'll find rich cherry, caramel, vanilla, seasoned oak, and baking spice. The first sip delivers waves of dark fruit, brown sugar, leather, chocolate, and mature oak before finishing with a long, silky warmth that drinks remarkably balanced despite the higher proof. The extra proof brings even more richness and intensity while allowing the whiskey's mature character to shine. The best part is knowing that once these barrels are gone, they're gone forever. There will never be another batch exactly like this because the circumstances that created Buff Turkey are almost certainly never happening again. Sometimes whiskey history is planned. Sometimes it happens completely by accident. This bottle is proof that accidents can be absolutely spectacular.
