DOB Flowers

Takashi Murakami - DOB Flowers The work DOB Flowers by Takashi Murakami presents itself as a symmetrical and surreal composition, in which the iconic character Mr. DOB dominates the scene from the two opposing sides of the canvas. With a vertical structure measuring 80 x 60 cm, the piece features a grey checkered background that evokes a digital environment and emphasizes the flatness typical of the Superflat movement, theorized by the artist himself. The two large Mr. DOB heads, stylized with abstract motifs, face each other along the horizontal axis, creating a mirrored effect that frames a thin vertical stream of smiling flowers, a hallmark of Murakami’s visual language. The combination of Japanese pop symbolism, references to anime and manga, and a flat aesthetic makes DOB Flowers a representative work of the artist’s mature production. Created at the Kaikai Kiki Factory using techniques that integrate hand drawing with digital processing, the piece shows extreme graphic precision and smooth, uniform surfaces. In this limited edition of 300 copies, DOB Flowers is not only a collectible screenprint but also an emblematic example of Murakami’s ability to merge high art with popular culture, offering an image that is both playful and conceptually layered, balancing visual irony with cultural critique.
