Discover Drones Club Pack

Discover Drones Club Pack Grades: 7+ Number of Students: Up to 10 Contact Hours: 30+ Lesson Plan Sample PDF   Includes 2 drones, 2 pair of FPV goggles, 2 radio controllers and all necessary components to get you flying! See details below.  Drones capture stunning aerial photography, save lives in modern day search and rescue missions, collect snot samples from whales for scientific research, inspect vast agricultural landscapes, survey crocodile-infested waters, thrill spectators in FPV racing, bring medical supplies to war-torn areas and deliver pizzas in New Zealand. The world has fallen in love with them, and we're sure your students will too. In Discover Drones, your learning environment will experience first-hand the technology that been sweeping over the world. Starting with lessons in engineering and technology, students begin by building RubiQ, their modular, open-source training drone! After learning the safety regulations and procedures surrounding unmanned aerial vehicles, they'll then start with the basics of flight, first becoming comfortable on a training simulator before moving to line-of-sight piloting. After mastering RubiQ controls, it time for students to don their First-Person View (FPV) goggles, experiencing first-hand what STEM at 75 MPH is like! Discover Drones utilizes the PCS Edventures cutting-edge curriculum, LABCards. The LABCard approach is intended to provide a tool that enables a more student-directed experience. Educators are empowered to provide more facilitation, coaching and mentoring as students work independently and in their own fashion. To keep interest piqued, each card includes a mix of different activities for you to flow between. From whole group discussions and time for teams to work together on their drone to individual quizzes and flight simulator practice, every LABCard is unique, engaging and downright fun! Coupled with hands-on, experiential learning, Discover Drones also utilizes the online educational app, Droneology, a fast-paced, interactive online course that prepares pilots of all skill levels for safe and responsible drone entertainment. Droneology covers topics of safety, laws and regulations, flight basics and the many uses of drones! This digital course is optimized for use on mobile devices, allowing easy access from phones, tablets or computers, anytime, anywhere. From learning to piece RubiQ together to making death-defying aerial maneuvers, Discover Drones is the trailblazing educational tool your learning environment needs. Preparing students for the future of UAV and careers that haven't even been invented, it time to take flight. Are you ready for high-octane education? 2 RubiQ's, PCS Edventures cutting-edge educational drone (Each RubiQ model features: FPV camera, GPS, Built-in accelerometer, barometer and compass, Brushless 2200KV Motors With Built-In ESC, Programmable RGB LED Board, 3S LiPo Battery.) As the Rosetta Stone to classroom preparation, progression and facilitation, the Educator Guide is the handbook on becoming a drone ambassador and expert pilot. Housing instruction and guidelines for student, flight field and battery safety, as well as detailed resources for aiding students through the 20 cards of building, training, flying and real-world connectability, the Educator Guide provides instructors with the confidence and ability to dive into the STEM content and lesson plans with the same level of excitement as the pilots-to-be! As the one-stop-shop on all safety guidelines, assessments and resources for explanation and facilitation, the Educator Guide is the instructor's road map to the future of drones. LABCards The LABCard approach is intended to provide a tool that enables a more student-directed experience. Educators are empowered to provide more facilitation, coaching and mentoring as students work independently and in their own fashion. Almost all learning environments, including after-school programs, clubs and a wide variety of classroom models, can utilize LABCard curriculum. Each LABCard includes: Two step-by-step projects that introduce new concepts and skills by guiding students through self-driven activities. Two engaging challenges that take learners through the completion of Droneology, training on the flight simulator and the honing of their piloting skills. A final design project that gives students an opportunity to apply what they've learned in an open-ended way. Key Terms are listed at the end of each card for reference. Along the bottom of most cards is a Droneology checklist, listing videos to watch and quizzes to pass before moving onto the next card. At the end of every level, an End Design Project challenges students to synthesize their learning with creativity, critical thinking and real-world relevance.   Droneology Coupled with hands-on, experiential learning, Discover Drones also utilizes the online educational app, Droneology, a fast-paced, interactive online course that prepares pilots of all skill levels for safe and responsible drone entertainment. Droneology covers topics of safety, laws and regulations, flight basics and the many uses of drones! This digital course is optimized for use on mobile devices, allowing easy access from phones, tablets or computers, anytime, anywhere. FPV Freerider FPV FreeRider is a top-of-the-line flight simulator for pilots-in-training. As a critical part of the Discover Drones curriculum, logging hours on the flight simulator allows students to hone their piloting skills without running the risk of crashing a real drone! Curriculum Topics YELLOW Level 1: BUILD Essential Drone Knowledge RubiQ Drone Construction Wave Behavior and Electron Flow Laws, Regulations and Coordinating Groups ORANGE Level 2: TRAIN Flight Simulator and Radio Controls Radio and Flight Controller Configuration Electrochemistry of LiPo Batteries Ethics, Drones and the Future PURPLE Level 3: FLY Flight Safety Line-of-Sight Piloting Skills Motor and Sensor Calibration Balanced and Unbalanced Forces BLUE Level 4: RACE FPV Piloting Skills Bernoulli Principle and Newton Third Law Airfoils and Angle of Attack Racer Mindset   Standards Alignment - Next Generation Science Standards NGSS HS-ETS1-1 Analyze a major global challenge to specify qualitative and quantitative criteria and constraints for solutions that account for societal needs and wants. NGSS HS-ETS1-2 Design a solution to a complex real-world problem by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable problems that can be solved through engineering. NGSS HS-PS1-1 Analyze data to support the claim that Newton second law of motion describes the mathematical relationship among the net force on a macroscopic object, its mass and its acceleration. NGSS HS-PS1-5 Apply scientific principles and evidence to provide an explanation about the effects of changing the temperature or concentration of the reacting particles on the rate at which a reaction occurs. NGSS HS-PS2-6 Communicate scientific and technical information about why the molecular-level structure is important in the functioning of designed materials. NGSS HS-PS3-1 Create a computational model to calculate the change in energy of one component in a system when the change in energy of the other component(s) and energy flows in and out of the system are known. NGSS HS-PS3-2 Develop and use models to illustrate that energy at the macroscopic level can be accounted for as a combination of energy associated with the motions of particles (objects) and energy associated with the relative positions of particles (objects). NGSS HS-PS3-3 Design, build and refine a device that works within given constraints to convert one form of energy into another form of energy. NGSS HS-PS4-2 Evaluate questions about the advantages of using a digital transmission and storage of information. NGSS HS-PS4-3 Evaluate the claims, evidence and reasoning behind the idea that electromagnetic radiation can be described either as a wave model or a particle model, and that for some situations one model is more useful than the others. NGSS HS-PS4-5 Communicate technical information about how some technological devices use the principles of wave behavior and wave interactions with matter to transmit and capture information and energy.   Note: Due to production time, this item typically ships 2-3 weeks after receipt of the order.
