Discerning Idols

Any time we hold our happiness hostage to what we desire to have happen, we are in a form of idolatry.  The thought, "If only_______, then I would be happy," is an indication that we  have put our trust for the future in what we think necessary for happiness, rather than in God. No wonder we find ourselves separated from the peace of God, just when we need it the most.  The first half of this book presents the principles of heart idolatry in a practical, conversational format, including a discussion of the symptoms of idolatry and an "Idols Test" for identifying specific idols. The second half guides the reader in applying these principles to helping others, and includes specific questions and guidelines for listening and heart examination. This book is useful for ministers, counselors, and mature believers who desire to help others with biblical truth. It is not a theological study, per se, but a demonstration of the practical application of biblical counseling principles and includes over fifty case examples and dialogues.
