Dissolved oxygen (DO) is the oxygen present in water, essential for the survival of fish, invertebrates, and microorganisms. Measured in milligrams per liter (mg/L), DO levels are influenced by factors like temperature, pressure, salinity, and organic matter. Adequate dissolved oxygen is crucial for healthy aquatic ecosystems; low levels can cause hypoxia, harming aquatic life. Regular monitoring of DO is important for maintaining water quality in natural bodies of water and wastewater treatment.
