Protease Breaks down proteins (from protein-rich food such as dairy, meat and fish) into smaller polypeptides and amino acids. This is important because is a major building block of muscles, bones, skin and blood, as well as hormones, enzymes and other body chemicals. Pectinase Breaks down pectin, which is found in the cell wall of plants (pectin-rich foods include apples, pears, oranges, citrus fruits, carrots, apricots). Cellulase Breaks down cellulose, one of the main components of fiber, which is found in the cell wall of plants (you’ll find it in fruits, vegetables and whole grains). Alpha-galactosidase Breaks down carbohydrates from foods such as beans, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower, which commonly cause gas. Amyloglucosidase Breaks down complex sugars (for example, from vegetables, whole grains, oatmeal, brown rice) and simple sugars (such as from fruit juice, milk, yogurt, honey, etc). Lipase Breaks down fats and oils. Acid stable protease Breaks down protein in acidic conditions. Lactase Breaks down lactose, the sugar primarily found in milk and dairy. Hemicellulase Breaks down hemicellulose, a type of dietary fiber found in the cell walls of plants (but simpler in structure than cellulose, which is digested by cellulase). The enzymes in DigestWise™ are plant/fungus-based and the product is totally vegetarian/vegan. It is also free of wheat, gluten, corn, milk, egg, soybeans, fish, shellfish, peanuts and tree nuts. It contains NO artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives. Does your product contain sugar, maltodextrin, maltase or sulfites? No, DigestWise™ is completely free of sugar, maltodextrin, maltase and sulfites. Do digestive enzymes and probiotics do the same thing? Digestive enzymes aid digestion by helping to break down proteins, fats, carbohydrates, dairy products, sugars and fiber in food.† This boosts nutrient absorption and can help relieve gastrointestinal symptoms. Probiotics work differently, helping to maintain a healthy gut by colonizing your gastrointestinal tract with healthy bacteria, which also aids digestion and gastrointestinal symptoms. Digestive enzymes and probiotics are often used together to optimize gastrointestinal function.† Why aren’t these digestive enzymes enteric coated? We deliberately keep DigestWise™ capsules free of an enteric coating to maximize the release of the enzymes in your stomach, where they can aid digestion and help break down the food you eat. Our digestive enzymes work in a full range of pH (acidity) levels and do not need to be stomach acid-resistant. We recommend that you take them immediately before a meal for the best results. Does this require refrigeration? No, DigestWise™ does not need to be refrigerated and you can therefore take the capsules with you when you go out for a meal or travel. Why is there rice flour in DigestWise™? Rice flour is used to help fill out the capsule (to retain its shape and quality). It is only used in small quantities and we use rice flour because it's a clean, healthy choice that is gluten-free and high in beneficial fiber. Is DigestWise™ non-GMO? Yes, DigestWise™ is non-GMO and third party tested in independent laboratories. Is this product yeast-free? Yes, DigestWise™ is completely free of yeast. What are the specific plant sources for your enzymes? The specific sources for our enzymes are: Cellulase – from Trichoderma longibrachiatum Amylase, protease, lactase – from Aspergillus oryzae Pectinase, alpha-galactosidase, amyloglucosidase, acid stable protease, hemicellulase – from Aspergillus niger Lipase – from Rhizopus oryzae Does this product contain fungus? What if you are sensitive to fungus and mold? Although our digestive enzymes are derived from fungi such as Aspergillus, they do not actually contain non-enzyme fungal material that those with allergies may react to. The enzymes are harvested from the fungi and then undergo a stringent purification process to remove any fungal or mold material and extract the pure enzyme protein. We also perform rigorous multi-phase testing to ensure the final product is free of contaminants. Can I use this while pregnant/breastfeeding? Pregnant or nursing mothers should consult a physician before taking this or any dietary supplement. REVIEWS REVIEWS
