Dewars 12 Year 1.75L

Dewar's 12 Year 1.75L is a double-aged blended Scotch whisky bottled at 40% ABV in a 1.75-liter format. Rated 94 points by Whisky Advocate — the highest score ever awarded to a 12-year-old blended Scotch — and named Best Blended Scotch 12 Years Old at the 2024 International Whisky Competition, this expression punches well above its class. Quick Facts: ABV: 40%  |  Origin: Highland Perthshire, Scotland  |  Age: 12 Years  |  Distillery: Aberfeldy Distillery Production & Heritage Aberfeldy Distillery, located in Highland Perthshire, serves as the spiritual home and malt backbone of the Dewar's blending operation. The 12 Year expression marries roughly thirty individual single malt and grain whiskies, each aged a minimum of twelve years, then employs the brand's signature double-aging process: after the initial blending, the married whisky rests a second time in oak casks, allowing the components to integrate more fully. That blended spirit then receives a final finishing period in first-fill bourbon casks, which amplifies the sweet vanilla and caramel character that defines the profile. Tasting Notes Aroma: Ripe orchard fruit and bright citrus peel greet the nose first, followed by layers of vanilla and a gentle honeyed sweetness. Dried fruits emerge as the whisky opens, adding depth beneath the initial brightness. Taste: The entry is smooth and slightly sweet, with butterscotch and creamy toffee coating the palate. At mid-palate, cereal grain and soft baking spice add structure, while ripe fruit notes weave throughout. A subtle warmth builds toward the back, grounded by toasted oak. Finish: Medium in length, gently smoky, with lingering oak and honeyed warmth. Dried fruit and a whisper of vanilla persist as the spice fades cleanly. How to Drink Dewar's 12 Neat or with a few drops of water is the best way to appreciate the double-aging. A single large ice cube opens the butterscotch and fruit notes without drowning the oak influence. In a Highball, the citrus brightness and clean finish pair beautifully with chilled soda water and a lemon twist. A Rob Roy benefits from the whisky's toffee sweetness playing against sweet vermouth. For a refreshing warm-weather option, a Penicillin cocktail lets the honeyed, gently smoky profile harmonize with ginger and lemon. Dewar's 12 delivers a smooth, approachable profile led by butterscotch, vanilla, and citrus, supported by cereal grain, soft spice, and a gently smoky oak finish. It leans sweet and fruity rather than peaty or heavy. How does Dewar's 12 compare to Johnnie Walker Black Label? Both are 12-year blended Scotch whiskies at 40% ABV, but Dewar's 12 favors a sweeter, more fruit-forward and honeyed character thanks to its bourbon-cask finishing and double-aging process. Johnnie Walker Black Label tends to show more pronounced smokiness from its Islay malt components, making it a drier, peatier option. Is Dewar's 12 good for sipping neat? Yes — the double-aging process creates a well-integrated, smooth whisky specifically designed for neat enjoyment. Its 94-point score from Whisky Advocate reflects strong performance as a sipping Scotch. Where is Dewar's 12 made? Dewar's 12 is produced at the Aberfeldy Distillery in Highland Perthshire, Scotland, which provides the primary single malt at the blend's core. Additional component whiskies are sourced from multiple Scottish distilleries before being blended and double-aged at Aberfeldy. What foods pair well with Dewar's 12? Smoked salmon and cream cheese complement the honeyed sweetness. Aged cheddar or Gruyère mirrors the butterscotch and oak notes. Roasted chicken with herbs matches the whisky's soft spice. Apple tart or pear crumble echoes the orchard fruit character. Dark chocolate with sea salt draws out the vanilla finish. What sizes does Dewar's 12 come in? Dewar's 12 Year is widely available in 750ml and 1.75L bottles, with the 1.75L format offering the best volume value for regular enjoyment or entertaining. Is Dewar's 12 worth the price? Dewar's 12 positions as a premium blended Scotch that consistently over-delivers relative to its price tier, especially considering its 94-point Whisky Advocate rating and multiple international competition medals. The 1.75L format further improves the per-pour value. Why Dewar's 12? The double-aging and first-fill bourbon cask finishing set this blend apart mechanically from most competitors at the 12-year tier, producing a level of integration and sweetness that single-stage blending rarely achieves. A 94-point score from Whisky Advocate — their highest mark for any 12-year blended Scotch — plus a Gold at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards and Best in Class at the 2024 International Whisky Competition confirm that the process translates to the glass. At 1.75 liters, this bottle provides serious runway for both neat pours and cocktail service without compromise. Few blended Scotch whiskies at this age and price point carry this depth of critical validation.
