American Devotion, by Fiona Pestana

Prose, chapbook, 36 pages, from Bottlecap Features. American Devotion explores a personal tether to Christianity through an anticapitalist lens. After a suburban Catholic adolescence, Fiona Pestana finds the U.S. at its most gracious and most sacrilegious. In redefining their faith, they’ve come to believe in God as love in action, to see Jesus as a good-hearted neighbor who’d diligently organize and resist if alive now. Travel with Pestana to rural Arizona, the Disneyland of cemeteries, and beyond while examining how Christians in the U.S. use Jesus to justify their political behavior. How do Americans respond to the age-old question: What would Jesus do? Fiona Pestana is a writer, producer, and artist. Their work has been featured by publications like the Los Angeles Times, Crooked Media, Ms. Magazine, and The Luna Collective. They love melodies, prayers, carbs, mutual aid, and their cat Lucky. From California, based in Brooklyn.
