Desert Ruellia

Low-Maintenance Flower, Perfect for Warmer Temps The Desert Ruellia, also known as the Baja Ruellia, is the perfect plant to add a burst of color and attractive foliage to your yardscape! Between the long bloom period and resistance to heat—it’s no wonder this has become a popular choice for gardeners. Watch your Desert Ruellia grow up to 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide, all while filling with a dense bloom of lovely purple flowers in the spring and then again throughout the year.  Another great perk? The Desert Ruellia can handle the extreme heat with very little water and still thrive in your yard. Plus, it doesn’t require any fertilizer and is pest resistant! We recommend using this plant in borders, planting beds, or to add height and dimension to your garden. It fits in well with garden cottage or Mediterranean landscape styles, too! This hardy, long-blooming shrub won't last long. Order your Desert Ruellia today! Planting & Care 1. Planting: Plant your Desert Ruellia in well-drained soil that is mixed with compost. Select a location that gets full sun with very little shade.  2. Watering: Water deeply twice a month in the summer and every three weeks in the spring and fall. We suggest putting your garden hose on a moderate trickle and leaving it to saturate the surrounding soil for 15 minutes. 3. Pruning: Every 2-3 years after the last frost, prune your plant back to 1 ½ feet to restore and remove unproductive growth.
