Dendrobium farmeri

Introducing the Dendrobium farmeri, a stunning species of orchid native to the majestic landscapes of the Himalayas and Indochina. With its graceful stems and delicate flowers, this orchid adds a touch of elegance to any space it inhabits. The stems of the Dendrobium farmeri typically measure between 20 to 40 cm in length, boasting a captivating greenish-yellow hue with short internodes. The stems exhibit a unique morphology with slightly concave edges and square corners, giving them an intriguing appearance. Each stem bears 3-4 leaves at the apex, showcasing medium thickness and dimensions of approximately 8-12 cm in length and 4-6 cm in width. As a member of the Dendrobium genus, this orchid retains its leaves throughout the year, offering enduring beauty regardless of the season. During the spring months, usually around February to March, the Dendrobium farmeri bursts into a spectacular display of flowers. These blossoms form in clusters along the stem, measuring 20-30 cm in length. Each individual flower boasts ethereal white petals with a vibrant yellow throat adorned with fluffy white edges. While predominantly white, some variations may exhibit a subtle pink hue, adding diversity to its allure. To cultivate the Dendrobium farmeri successfully, it's essential to provide the right environment and care. Planting directly in a pot or utilizing terracotta pots with charcoal at the base ensures proper drainage, preventing waterlogging, which can be detrimental to the plant's health. This orchid thrives in a moist environment but requires careful attention to avoid waterlogging. Regular watering, preferably 1-3 times daily depending on environmental conditions, coupled with swift drainage, promotes optimal growth. Additionally, periodic application of B1 or Atonik spray, as directed, aids in maintaining vigor and vitality. Light is crucial for the Dendrobium farmeri's well-being. Hanging the plant in a location with ample but filtered light, such as under a thin black net, fosters healthy growth. During the active growth phases in spring and summer, weekly fertilization with a 30-10-10 fertilizer supports robust stem and leaf development. As autumn transitions into winter, reduce watering slightly to induce a brief dry period, essential for initiating the flowering cycle. However, ensure consistent moisture to prevent leaf defoliation. Supplementing with a 10-30-10 fertilizer once a week during this period stimulates flower production, ensuring a breathtaking floral display. This is a blooming size imported bare root orchid; newly repotted in a 4" pot; about 1 to 2 years to bloom; Grown from seed; Limited! With its captivating beauty and manageable care requirements, the Dendrobium farmeri is the perfect choice for orchid enthusiasts seeking a touch of natural splendor in their homes or gardens.
