Delaware Chicken

Delaware—*50 Delaware Chicken Originating in Delaware, USA, in the 1940s and officially recognized by the American Standard of Perfection in 1952, the Delaware chicken is a dual-purpose breed known for its single comb and brown egg production. This breed features nearly white plumage with black feathers around the neck and tail, and it is renowned for its rapid growth. The Delaware’s development began when a hatchery owner crossed Rock-Reds,  occasionally producing white chicks considered "off color" or "sports." These white chicks exhibited remarkable growth and size, and after years of selective breeding, their color and patterns became stable, leading to their recognition as a standard breed. By the 1980s and 1990s, pure Delaware flocks had dwindled significantly, but the breed has experienced a resurgence in the past 15 years. The Chicken Coop Company has proudly continued the legacy of this exceptional chicken breed. Frequently Asked Questions:  What Makes Delaware Chickens Special?
