DEF CON 34 GITD NFC Faceplate

DEF CON 34 Glow-in-the-Dark NFC Faceplate Scale Two functions your key organizer did not have this morning: it finds itself in a dark room, and it hands someone your contact info with a tap. The DEF CON 34 Glow-in-the-Dark NFC Faceplate Scale is a snap-on side plate with a phosphorescent shell and a rewritable NXP NTAG215 chip embedded inside, printed with this year's DEF CON 34 design. It fits the Keyport Pivot, Slide, and Anywhere Tools, and it swaps in seconds without tools. What Is a Faceplate Scale? Keyport Faceplate Scales are removable side plates that let you customize your Keyport Pivot, Keyport Slide, or Anywhere Tools Bundles by Keyport. Like knife scales, Faceplate Scales provide both function and personalization to Keyport's modular key organizers, key holders, and keychain multi-tools. Why This Faceplate Scale The glow layer is a high-glow resin in the polycarbonate shell, not printed ink. It charges under any light source and emits a green glow in the dark, which is how you find your keys on a hotel nightstand at 3am without turning on a lamp. The NFC side is a 13.56MHz NXP NTAG215 chip, rewritable as many times as you want. Tap a phone to it and it can hand over contact info, a URL, a payment link, a Wi-Fi credential, or a shortcut you built yourself. Program it once for the con and reprogram it the week after. Learn more about NFC, why NFC is so useful, and creative uses for the NFC-enabled Faceplate. Program it with the free NFC Tools app, available for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android in the Google Play Store. No coding required. Programming note: iPhone users: write the tag using the NFC Tools app before scanning it. Android users: you can scan immediately, but the tag reads blank until you program it. Every NFC Glow-in-the-Dark Faceplate features a durable stainless spring steel plate staked to a polycarbonate outer shell. The graphics are hardened on the outside of the PC shell with a special ink baked on with ultraviolet light, highly resistant to wear. The fastener-free design snaps on and off in seconds using a paperclip, a pen tip, or the Module Removal Tool (MRT). Note: Each Faceplate is individually sold. Frequently Asked Questions: DEF CON 34 Glow-in-the-Dark NFC Faceplate Scale What are Keyport Faceplate Scales? Faceplate Scales are swappable side covers that change the look and function of your Keyport Pivot or Slide. They work like knife scales, only modular and tool-free. Does the glow-in-the-dark faceplate really glow? Yes. The faceplate charges under natural or artificial light and emits a green glow in the dark. For the brightest result, expose it to a strong light source such as sunlight or a UV light for a few minutes. The glow is most visible in low light or full darkness. Is this faceplate compatible with my Keyport? It fits the Keyport Pivot, Slide 3.0 and 4.0, Anywhere Tools Pocket Clip, the NEBA module, and the MOCA2 module. If you are not sure which model you have, send us a quick email. What can I program the NFC chip to do? Share contact info, open a website or social profile, trigger a smart home routine, launch a payment app, connect to Wi-Fi, or open a digital business card, all from a tap. Can I program DEF CON specific shortcuts into the NFC tag? Yes. The NTAG215 will hold whatever you write to it: a conference map, a Wi-Fi credential, a link to your resume or project, a contact card, or a shortcut you built yourself. Rewrite it as often as you want. How do I program the NFC chip? Download the free NFC Tools app for iOS or Android, then follow the app's steps to write your action to the chip. No coding required. Does it work with both iPhone and Android? Yes. iPhones from the XR forward read and write NFC tags, but you have to write the tag before scanning it. Android reads and writes by default, though the chip reads blank until you program it. Does the glow layer interfere with NFC? No. The glow resin and polycarbonate shell are non-metallic, so the NFC field passes through normally. How do I install or switch Faceplate Scales? Installing is a snap. Removing takes a small trick that is simple once you have seen it, and the Module Removal Tool (MRT) makes it faster. The fastest way to learn both is to watch the video above. Can I collect and swap Faceplate Scales? Yes. Faceplate Scales are built to swap, so you can match your setup to your style, your function, or the conference you are at. Who This Faceplate Is Best For The DEF CON 34 Glow-in-the-Dark NFC Faceplate Scale is best for anyone who wants a tap-to-share NFC tag on their key organizer rather than on a separate card. It is best for DEF CON attendees who want a programmable tag they can reload with a map, a Wi-Fi credential, or a project link for the week. It is best for collectors who swap faceplates by year and want the DEF CON 34 design. It is best for Keyport owners who want two functions added to a chassis they already carry, at 0.18 oz. Produced for DEF CON 34 and available here and at the Keyport booth in Las Vegas.
