Large clusters of golf ball sized fruit characterize this spectacular wildlife tree. It’s self-fertile, but an increased production of fruit is likely with the presence of another pear cultivar nearby. It can be combined with our other earlier-fruiting selections to have a long season of fruit availability. As such, this is a very special selection that will be of great interest for your wildlife orchards. Kieffer Pear – 3x Of hybrid origin, Kieffer Pear has harder fruits than Bartlett but the deer happily consume them with no problem. This selection is more resistant to fire blight and therefore a better choice over the earlier-fruiting Bartlett Pear in areas that experience warm, wet spring weather, especially in humid areas along the gulf coast where the disease can be an issue. Self-fertile but enjoy an even more reliable pollination/fruit set by planting another pear selection nearby, such as the later-fruiting Dr. Deer Pear that we offer for an extended season of sweet deer treats. Methley Plum – 2x The Methley Plum is a resilient, early-fruiting tree that quietly transforms your land into a wildlife magnet. By early summer, its flowers yield deep purple plums—sweet, juicy, and just tart enough to pull whitetails in when other food sources are still waking up. Growing 15-20’ with a rounded, open canopy, the Methley thrives in full sun and takes to a range of soils, from loamy to sandy, with little fuss. Self-fertile and reliable, it fruits generously on its own, though a second plum variety nearby can improve harvest. Santa Rosa Plum – 2x The Santa Rosa Plum delivers a steady pull of wildlife to your land with its early-season fruit production. By early summer, its soft pink flowers give way to vibrant purple-red plums—lush, tangy-sweet fruits that whitetails zero in on when the fields are still green and other forage is just budding.
