Decaffeinated Sencha Green

This mellow Chinese green tea is produced from the first and second pickings of the season, then decaffeinated naturally to produce a smooth and easy drinking tea. This tea selection is decaffeinated by using a critical carbon dioxide method. Carbon dioxide acts as a solvent under extreme pressure and is thus capable of removing caffeine from tea. The tea is first wet with water and then carbon dioxide is circulated through in a pressurized chamber. The process takes several hours before the carbon dioxide solvent is separated off, and the tea dried.
