Death by Hamburger

David LaChapelle - Death by Hamburger Death by Hamburger is an artwork by American artist David LaChapelle made in a limited edition of four. The shot depicts a girl being crushed by a giant inflatable hamburger, an icon of American hyper-consumerism. The work is part of a series entitled Live Your Best Life shot by LaChapelle between 2001 and 2002. Within LaChapelle's numerous shots there is a recurring criticism and denunciation of the "American Dream", that is, the myth that material well-being, which is the only measure of success and happiness, is achievable through commitment and hard work. Death by Hamburger measures 26x40 in. and is hand-signed. The photograph, made using the chromogenic printing technique, was taken in 2001.
