Sodium hydroxide is a chemical compound that holds or maintains the pH of skincare products, also known as lye. In soap, it’s combined with animal fat or vegetable oil in a process called saponification. Essentially, soap is a mixture of base oils, a diluted lye solution, and herbal additives.
During the soap making process the lye is heavily diluted with water, and added to the oils to create a thick mixture. The mixture is then added to a mold for 24 hours to harden, and set to cure for 4-6 weeks. During the curing process, the soap bars lose water weight, in which the sodium hydroxide is dissolved. Therefore lye is needed for the chemical process that soap goes through, but it's not present in the final product MINERAL BENEFITS Dead Sea Mud Mineral Benefits Calcium refreshes skin, while maintaining a strong barrier to hold onto moisture Sodium helps rejuvenate the look of youthful, healthy skin Magnesium protects Sulfur helps to detoxify skin of impurities Potassium helps to balance Bromide restores a vital look to the complexion   Rhassoul Clay Mineral Benefits Magnesium – Undoubtedly one of the most powerful minerals for our health, magnesium is required for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It regulates nerve and muscle function, stabilizes blood sugar levels and blood pressure, and assists in the production of bone, protein and DNA.  Iron – Iron is a vital component of hemoglobin, the substance in your red blood cells that transport oxygen from your lungs throughout your body’s tissue. Many of us are familiar with iron for the wrong reason – a deficiency that makes one tired due to anemia.  Lithium – The role of lithium is a little-understood one. Doctors use it to treat psychiatric conditions such as bipolar disorder.  Silica – Widely used as a food additive, silica, like iron, carries oxygen (and other nutrients) throughout the body. It is also used as an excipient for prescription tablets and pills.  Sodium – Sodium, which we mostly refer to as salt, is not all bad for you. It has many essential functions for the body and it’s problematic when you have too little (like it is if you have too much) in your body.  Potassium – The role of potassium is two-faced – it’s both a mineral and an electrolyte. It helps your muscles function properly, including your heart and those responsible for breathing.
