DBT STOP Skill Worksheet

The STOP skill in DBT stands for the following steps: Stop, Take a step back, Observe, and Proceed Mindfully. The purpose of the STOP skill is to prevent a distressing situation from worsening through mindfulness and emotional regulation. This skill is ideal to use in situations that trigger strong negative emotions like anger, fear, and anxiety. The DBT STOP Skill Worksheet features a two-page activity in which clients describe a crisis situation that triggered them and rate the intensity of their emotions. It also asks them to practice coping skills, reflect on the outcome, and prepare a goal plan for the next crisis. Engaging in this activity benefits young people beyond immediate crisis management by increasing their self-awareness and helping them make better choices by considering the consequences of their actions. These worksheets can be used alongside the DBT STOP Skill handout, which serves as a guide for kids and teens who are learning about DBT for the first time. *This item is an instant digital download.
