SunSparkler Dazzleberry Stonecrop

SunSparkler Dazzleberry Stonecrop (Sedum x SunSparkler 'Dazzleberry')SunSparkler Dazzleberry Stonecrop brings cool, smoky blue foliage to sunny beds and keeps its color steady through summer heat. The low, spreading habit fills gaps quickly, helping borders and edges look finished without constant maintenance. In late summer, large raspberry-pink flower clusters rise above the foliage and keep the display going into early fall while drawing pollinators. It is a reliable choice for well-drained landscapes where you want high contrast with low water needs. Distinctive FeaturesThis compact stonecrop forms a dense, well-branched mound that spreads into a tidy groundcover, with blue-gray foliage that holds strong color through the growing season. Broad, flat-topped clusters of bright raspberry-pink flowers appear in late summer to early fall, creating a bold color pairing against the cool foliage and extending interest for weeks. The plant is known for staying tight and resisting splitting, which helps it look clean and intentional even at peak bloom. As flowers age, the heads can dry attractively for added texture into fall. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun delivers the best foliage color, strongest stems, and most abundant flowering. Soil: Plant in well-drained soil, including sandy or gravelly sites, and avoid consistently wet conditions. Water: Water to establish, then keep to dry to medium moisture, allowing soil to dry between waterings. USDA Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 9 in typical garden conditions. Mature Size: Typically grows 6 to 8 inches tall and spreads about 18 inches wide. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use a concentrated patch as a low focal point where the blue foliage and raspberry flowers can stand out against stone or mulch. Groundcover: Mass plant to create a dense, low mat that fills gaps and helps suppress weeds in sunny beds. Rock and Gravel Gardens: Tuck into fast-draining sites where crisp color and drought tolerance matter. Edging: Line paths and bed fronts for a clean, low border that stays neat with minimal trimming. Containers: Plant in well-drained containers to add cool foliage contrast and late-season bloom on patios and entries. Low Maintenance Care Pruning: Shear lightly after flowering or in early spring to refresh growth and keep the mat dense. Fertilizing: Avoid heavy feeding, because lean soils support tighter growth and better foliage color. Watering: Once established, water only during extended drought to maintain vigor and bloom quality. Mulching: Use a thin gravel top-dress if desired and keep the crown from staying wet to reduce rot risk. Winter Cleanup: Leave flower heads for seasonal texture, then cut back in late winter to early spring before new growth starts. Why Choose SunSparkler Dazzleberry Stonecrop? Color-Retentive Foliage: Smoky blue-gray leaves hold their cool tone through summer heat and humidity. Big Late-Season Bloom: Raspberry-pink flower clusters deliver standout color from late summer into early fall. Tidy Habit: Dense, well-branched growth stays compact and resists splitting for a clean look. Waterwise Performance: Succulent growth handles dry spells well once established in well-drained soil. Lower Browsing Pressure: Foliage is often less appealing to deer and rabbits than many soft-leaved perennials. SunSparkler Dazzleberry Stonecrop pairs especially well with ornamental grasses, golden foliage plants, and other late-blooming perennials for a long, cohesive finish to the season. Give it sun and sharp drainage, and it will reward you with dependable color, strong structure, and minimal upkeep year after year.
